IT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION

In the course of life and in our ambition to achieve a mission, we are bound to get our eyes on a lot of things (both the good and bad). We must be careful never to get carried away by the things that SEEMS beautiful or right.

SAUL was given an instruction to utterly destroy all but he did not because something else caught his attention. Paul saw the KENITES in the midst of Amalekites but let them go. They CAUGHT his ATTENTION. Which was quite good because they were innocent.

Saul warned the Kenites, Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
1 Samuel 15:6 AMPC

Never lose your focus.

The good things (sheep, oxen) in the camp of the AMALEKITES also caught his attention and he also let them go.
And that was when he did wrong. In his mission objective he was supposed to destroy all be it good or bad.

We all are on a mission, hence, we must watch the things that catches our attention. Some will yield to fruitfulness while some to destruction but you must ensure that your choices are not against your objectives or goals for your vision.

Why He Was Rejected.

He and his family was given a privelege to be king but lost that privelege because of his wrong choice. You might think that it was because he wanted to make sacrifices to God. But not at all.

He made a decision because of what he desired. He switched his desire from following God to his own desire on the battle field. He let his own desire control HIM and HIS MEN. God would not want a leader to lead his people astray.

*SAUL and the PEOPLE SPARED AGAG and the BEST of the SHEEP, OXEN, fatlings, lambs, and ALL that was GOOD, and WOULD NOT UTTERLY DESTROY them; but ALL that was UNDESIRABLE or WORTHLESS they DESTROYED UTTERLY.
1 Samuel 15:9 AMPC*

Saul's action was definitely not because of a desire to sacrifice to God but a a lustful desire which he and his men had.

When you make a decision, judge your motive. It might seem good to some extent but the foundation is totally faulty. He saved AGAG probably because he expected to get something more from him.
